Future Team GB Kayak star has came to Healthcare RM and HealthKinect for help. With pain in his shoulder, our team of specialists were on call to help. Starting with some physiotherapy work from our HealthKinect Physiotherapy Services Team Simon Williams, 18, then had full support from corrective exercises to nutritional advice. Now pain free, Simon tells us about his experience.
HRM: Tell us a bit about yourself:
SW: I am 18, Studying A-Levels at Worcester Sixth Form and I train at Worcester Canoe Club. I live by the canal so it's easy to get there and also to my gym in Worcester. I train 10-12 times a week, and my coach is Stuart West.
HRM: How did you hear about Healthcare RM?:
SW: While training I often had pain in my left shoulder, which I dislocated when I was younger. This had left a bit of weakness in that shoulder causing pain whilst training. I found Healthcare RM's website and emailed asking if I would be able to have support and help.
HRM: What have Healthcare RM done for you?
SW: I have met with two members of staff so far, Adam (Healthcare RM corrective exercise and nutrition specialist) and Heather (HealthKinect physiotherapist). Heather was sorting out my shoulder, which is now much better, and I do not get the pain during training; and Adam will be covering a wide variety of ways to improve the efficiency of my training e.g.: nutrition and sleep.
HRM: How have you found your experience?
SW: All the members of staff I have met are extremely pleasant and friendly. They always make time for you, even if they are busy, which is great. The treatments I received from Heather have really helped, particularly with my shoulder injury. There is a lot of equipment available and I also received Ultra sound on my wrist, which has eased pain I was getting while paddling.
The facilities in Tewkesbury were great, Adam took me around the building and the gym which, although not conventional, has a wide variety of equipment not usually available.
Adam is also extremely friendly and knowledgeable, we had an hour long meeting and then he offered to come and watch me train so that he can get a better understanding of what it is I do as a sport. This level of personalisation is great, as you know the support you are getting is tailored to you, and will help you improve whatever aspect is needed, be it a injury or making training as efficient as possible.
We wish you all the best Simon and look forward to hearing more about your achievements and what's going on!
