Evidence-based clinical research shows that acupuncture is a safe and highly effective means of treating a wide range of common health problems. Extensive scientific evaluation has consistently demonstrated significant effects upon a variety of physiological conditions.
Acupuncture is thought to work by triggering a physiological response via neuro-chemical responses in the brain. Its use has become widely accepted in the treatment of pain resulting from injury, lack of exercise, poor nutrition, infection and emotional and physical stress.
The type of acupuncture practised at HealthKinect Physiotherapy Services is known as the trigger point approach, a drug-free process that involves direct manipulation of muscular tightness, or knots, described as trigger points.
Treatment begins with hands-on touch to locate any areas of unnatural tightness, and establish the probable cause of your symptoms. Fine needles are then inserted painlessly into the skin to stimulate specific acupuncture points to generate an involuntary twitching from an injured muscle or group of muscles, resulting in the reduction or elimination of the tightness.
Trigger point acupuncture is effective in the treatment of new or long-term injuries, and the likelihood and level of success can usually be determined within one to three treatments.
